DOLPHIN RUNNING CLUB

Dolphin Running Club is off to a great start. This year we have 130 participants in grades 3-5. If you missed the deadline for signing up this fall, don't worry, we will open enrollment again in the spring. The students meet each Wednesday in October and November before school. They are logging their miles to earn prizes along the way. The club is funded through a grant from Sportsbackers and The Richmond Road Runners.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

4th and 5th grade students have been working on the new dance SOL's which include choreographing their own dances. The students worked in small groups to create a 32 count line dance that could be preformed at a wedding. The students did an excellent job and I really enjoyed seeing their creativity unfold. Ask your child to perform their dance for you.

BE A HEART HERO!

The month of February is devoted to Heart Health in Physical Education class. The students are learning about cardiorespiratory endurance and the importance of taking care of their heart. In conjunction with this, the students are encouraged to help support the American Heart Association by gathering donations. The easiest and most effective way to do this is do go online and sign up. There is even an free app you can download on smartphones. Last year, Cool Spring Students raised over 25,000 dollars for the American Heart Association.  Go sign up today and be a HEART HERO.

Step 1: Go to www.heart.org/jump and click on Register Today.

Step 2: Enter Cool Spring Elementary and VA and click Submit to find your school’s event. When you find your team, click the Join Team hyperlink.(Do NOT select Cool Spring Primary)

Step 3: Create your own Username and Password and answer a security question. Click Continue

Step 4: Fill out the registration form. Review the Online Waiver and click the box to accept it. Once you are done, click the Continue button.

Step 5: A Share With Your Friends screen will pop up. Enter a message that you would like to share via social media and click on the program/s that you would like to use. Once you are done, click the Publish button. You’ll see a confirmation screen and a button you can click to enter your HeadQuarters and set up your web page. Or, click the “X” in the upper right hand corner of the pop up box to skip this step.

WINTER WONDERLAND

Before winter break students had a chance to participate in some winter themed fitness activities. Each year we turn the gym into an ice skating rink. We use scarves as ice skates. The students have a blast participating in all the usual skate night activities such as the Limbo, the Hokey Pokey, the Chicken Dance and many more.
